Description
This
project
features
a
variety
of
newspaper
clippings
collected
by
George
Raymond
,
head
of the
Chester
NAACP
for
nearly
25
years
. A
majority
of these
clippings
come
from the
Chester
Times
and its
successor
the
Delaware
County
Daily
Times
and the
rest
come
from
Philadelphia
and
National
Newspapers
. For this
project
, the
clippings
are
organized
into
several
categories
based
upon
topic
. The
categories
include
:
Recreation
,
Events
in the
Black
Community
,
Chester
NAACP
Branch
,
Delaware
County
Schools
and
Delaware
County
Housing
. The
clippings
primarily
cover
the
time
period
from
1940
to
1960
.
Every
effort
was
made
to
ascertain
the
date
for
each
article
.
Many
of the
articles
in this
project
are
complete
.
However
,
George
Raymond
frequently
cut
out
a
small
section
from a
larger
article
if he
did
not
think
the
complete
article
was
worth
saving
.
Where
possible
,
we
have
located
the
entire
article
from the
Delaware
County
Daily
Times
Online
Archive
and
included
it
in this
project
to
provide
the
correct
context
for the
small
section
that
George
Raymond
preserved
.
